Good morning everybody
This past week has been strange weather-wise at the game lodge, clear skies for most of the time, but even a bit of rain. The evenings have been really dark having a crescent moon, showing all the beautiful stars plus the milky way. Most of the animals, both nocturnal and diurnal, have been using the evenings for moving around because the wind is very still and the night is quiet.
Animals are showing themselves all over the game reserve, early one morning one of our rangers had an amazing sighting of a female cheetah with two ten month old cubs playing and chasing each other in the open.
One of the Bull elephants was seen at a mud wallow in a deep thicket busy cleaning and scratching his trunk. He seemed very chilled maybe even bored, so we hung around for a while to see what he was up to and he ended up playing with a couple of rocks in the area throwing them around, even putting them in his mouth for a taste. He eventually got slightly excited and stared pushing us out of the area giving a few warnings.
Some special sightings that have been seen are of two suni antelope, Black rhino cow and her young bull calf, and two white-tailed mongoose feeding. One of our rangers spotted two male wild dogs running through the river bed on the hunt. Plus a breeding pair of crowned eagles were seen in their nest high in a dead fever tree, scanning the area bellow for food.
Until next time
Cheers, The Ranger Team
